The Abyss
Down, down we’re slipping,
Sliding into the gloom.
The poisons of our choice
Didn’t expect us back so soon.
Down, down we’re falling,
Spinning out of control.
Lost souls forgotten;
Call off the search patrol.
Down, down we’re sinking,
Drowning into the night,
Temptations once resisted
We no longer care to fight.
Down, down we’re edging,
There’s nothing to stop us now.
The mess within consumes us
In ways we don’t know how.
Down, down we're plummeting,
Hurtling into the unknown,
Life is just a free fall
Into which we all are thrown.
Deep, deep down we’re falling,
Humanity has loosened the slack.
When you’re looking into the abyss
Beware when it stares straight back.
