The Abused Spouse
He gave her the look
Reminding her instantly
that he was disgusting and bad
It no longer startled her
I am sorry she said
This came out as a half whisper
His eyes narrowed
She began to tremble.
Whatever happened now
She knew she deserved
His face and careful conditioning
Convinced her of that
