That's How It Was

That’s How It Was

a torn flag
 flapping in the wind
a testament to a far gone time
 I witness this in silence
 small tornadoes of leaves
 dancing around my feet
 there is peace here
 plenty of open space
 purity in the air
 I can finally breathe easy
 the delicate truth
 guides me carefully
 through the night
 tonight I will dream
 like a child
 my happiness goes
 unnoticed
