That was then, this is now

That was then, this is now,
Your light shone so bright,
And yet now you’re gone.

That was then, this is now,
We were always together,
And now I’m all alone.

I was a broken mess when you found me,
all those years ago, and yet you helped me heal,
You helped me trust.
You helped me be human again.

You never told me of your pain.
You never let me know you needed help.
I’m all alone. Nowhere to go.
Searching for my path

The brightest lights may hide the darkest secrets.
Those void of hope may have the purest of goals.
But That was then, and this is now.

This poem resonates with me on a very deep level! So many lines stood out for me especially “I was a broken mess when you found me, all those years ago, and yet you helped me heal, You helped me trust. You helped me be human again.” That hits home for me! Loved it! Thank you for sharing this and entering the contest! Congratulations on your win too

I'm glad you enjoyed my poem. I had a great time reliving my memories while writing this. As I've said for about a year now, 'Never forget the past, look forward to the future, but find hope in the present.'
