That He Betrayed Me

That he betrayed me wasn’t a fiction
I gave my first cheek to his gentle kiss
And the second one to his heavy blow
I gave him my heart
But he drew draw dagger at it
I was dying for love
Of a man who knows no love

I’ve smiled at myself to scorn
For folly that bewildered my gentle soul
Taking lust for love and love for lust
Hurrying after true love
In a loveless man
