That Girl

I will never be that girl.
The girl who has long silky hair.
The girl who struts the hall without fear.
The girl who spoke her mind.

But that girl never bat an eye in my direction.
That girl never wasted a breath on me.
That girl never had to think the things I thought.
That girl never looked at herself the way I do.

Yet that girl will not grow to the same length as me.
That girl will not learn the lessons I learned.
That girl will not face the challenges as me.

So that girl, will always be my past.
But that girl, will not be my future.
