Thanksgiving for Me
It is the only time I have a real turkey, and I look forward to it.
No one in my family except me likes it.
This is the main reason I like Thanksgiving.
Last year my husband brought home a dinky turkey; not kosher.
It was also the year my relatives plopped in for the meal.
So, neither my husband or I got to taste the teensy bird.
Because there was only enough for the guests.
There were no seconds.
This year I will be choosing my own turkey.
No one needs to come for our meal.
We will have turkey, dressing, corn, potatoes and pie.
No fruits or vegetables; we do not eat them.
I am getting used to retirement and being alone; and I love it.
My husband never liked company anyway.
Which I did not understand.
But now I do.
Thanksgiving will be a day to eat and nap.
Joys of retirement I am thankful for.
