Thanksgiving

On this special day we are asked to be thankful, so let us give thanks. Let us be thankful for the ignorance that blinds us to the suffering of billions. Let us be thankful for the countless birds that could not fight off our greedy hands. Let us be thankful for the native blood our ancestors spilled to cleanse this land– The very land that we now own, whose native creatures we now exploit. Let us celebrate our lives by stuffing our mouths with the souls of the dead, For we are a hungry people – hungry for power over others. Let us be thankful for ourselves, the divinely appointed rulers of the Earth, While its creatures remain our lowly subjects – Reduced to objects on our plates. Let us be thankful for the day the world will turn without us; That our violent legacy will soon become a distant memory; That the sun will one day rise to greet a far more peaceful planet, Where the creatures we once tortured for so long Will be thankful for our absence.
