Thanksgiving

I like to play board games with my family.
Then we talk about getting a Christmas tree.
Before the food has even cooled down.
We talk about Christmas without a frown.

I like to shop online.
With my sister all the time.
But tonight, the best deals abound.
We point to the screen and listen to the clicking sound.

Thanksgiving seems to go by too fast.
The next day, we have leftovers for breakfast.
Which is all that is left.
But with Christmas coming, we don’t feel bereft.

Thanksgiving…
Christmas songs, we start to sing.
We don’t sing for Thanksgiving.
Even in the living…

…room.
Cleaning pine needles with a broom.
Getting ready for presents and family.
Staring up at the tree.

Something about Thanksgiving’s past.
Makes time go by too fast.
In January, it is quiet.
We almost want to quit.

Maybe next year, we will relish the turkey a little more.
And enjoy sleeping in with a snore.
Play an extra board game on that day.
When turkey and side dishes come out to play.
