Notes About The Poem

(Having heard of the sad loss of Olivia Newton-John, I just wanted to give my thoughts on her effect on me, especially in my 20s having had ONJ Grease poster on my bedroom wall, sheer adoration! )

Thanks For the Memories Olivia

Olivia for many decades
you have been my number one
in looking back over the years
these SUMMER NIGHTS were such fun

But so quick like GREASED LIGHTNING
we would speed along BANKS OF THE OHIO
thinking of wanting A LITTLE MORE LOVE
we would feel such a PHYSICAL glow

We were at such a height of MAGIC
that TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROAD fast
as indeed we sped along like GREASE
making light of all we passed

YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT
because BEING HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU
wishes you would MAKE A MOVE ON ME
to make my dream come true

Such a hit in the movies too
a festive cracker with CHRISTMAS ROMANCE
XANADU so full of music verve
Olivia GREASEd us with every chance

August 8th '22 is a real sad day
indeed was when the music did die
for that distinctive amazing voice
cause without it makes one cry

Olivia Newton-John was sheer amazing
every boy loved ONJ to be his girl
now gone but never will be forgotten
Olivia's beauty and voice brought such a thrill!

I used to go with my kids to the rinks before covid - my daughter roller blades on the bike trail and I still have to try the pair she got me…I had to get knee pads and wrist braces first coz the trail isn’t as smooth Have a great weekend:)

Gordon, I too was saddened to hear of her passing. In my youth I was a fan of her tremendous talent and unique beauty... Have You Never Been Mellow was my first album of hers, followed by several others and I would play those LPs until they were worn out. I love the duet she sang with Gene Kelly in the Xanadu movie. Well done, I loved how you included so many song titles. Very touched by this tribute ~ adding this to my faves. Blessings ~ John

Thanks John, So glad you're a fellow fan as me to our dear Olivia, I must have seen Grease umpteen times mostly on DVD but my all-time fav song would be either ' Banks of the Ohio' or 'Hopelessly Devoted To You'. Pleased you made it a fave for you, Blessings always, Gordon
