Notes About The Poem

Just thinking about what we should be thankful for not just today but every day.

Thankful For What

I'm thankful for the freedom that I have always known.
I'm thankful for how safe I feel when I am home alone.

I'm thankful things are plentiful and I have all I need.
For food and clothes and playthings I've been spoiled indeed.

My home is not a mansion but I own it, it's all mine.
There I do just as I please, I draw all the lines.

I have my own transportation, go when and where I please.
I need no one's permission when I decide to take my leave.

I dress the way I want to dress, do what I want to do.
I'm no slave who bows and scrapes and lives in fear of you.

I hold my head up when I walk, no downcast eyes for me;
For we're all equals in this land, Praise God, for I am free.

I enjoy my life within our marriage, each one free to talk to the other about whatever, finances, buying a new car, we work still in our own business, and I thank God for that also, for the smaller house we bought together, couldn't manage the old one with four bedrooms and a landscaped garden - we are safe now as we live in an estate which has security 24/7, each of all of us blessed and so thankful to God Hugs, hugs, Jennifer.
