Thank Goodness For Mississippi
Thank Goodness for Mississippi
By Elton Camp
The reason to like Mississippi we must face
As no other state ever has to be in last place
No matter how bad things at home might get
In Mississippi, they will still be worse yet
If not for gambling, they would be flat broke
But not as long as visiting tourists they choke
But to some folks, living there seems just right
Most especially those who can’t read or write
They can wear overall and eat turnip greens
With side dishes of possum and string beans
When it’s not cold weather and they so choose
Mississippians can go anywhere without shoes
There you can talk with a nasal Southern drawl
And spit tobacco juice while you say, “Y’all”
This could generate an angry response with speed
Except that not many living there are able to read
