Notes About The Poem

TEXAS DUST
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sun-baked asphalt stretches,
heat-haze shimmering like water.
A lone hawk circles
above mesquite shadows.
Cattle low in dry grass.
Oil rigs nod slow.
Wind carries nothing
but grit and space
and the weight
of sky.
Always
sky.
