Notes About The Poem

image from devianart.com

*“A ‘blue norther’ is a fast-moving cold front, most famously associated with Texas, that causes a sudden and dramatic drop in temperature, often accompanied by strong winds, dark skies, and sometimes precipitation. The name ‘blue norther’ has several folk explanations: the blue-black clouds that precede the front; the clear, deep blue skies that follow once the front passes; and the idea that people ‘turn blue’ from the sudden cold.” (Source: Wikipedia.com)

Once such Blue Norther blew through our part of Texas yesterday; today, is more than a little chilly.

TEXAS BLUE NORTHER

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
wind-shear snaps the cottonwood’s spine~ a bruised sky bleeds indigo ink. dust devils whirl like dervishes gone feral. cattle low, low, lowing--panic against barbed wire. thermometer mercury plummets like a shot crow. tin roofs shudder under sudden hail. then: silence. Absolute. the world holds its breath in blue.
Egads! Not a welcoming as we are here in Hawaii, end of November, is the end of our hurricane season, but my island of Hawaii, Hawaii, gets hit the most, not like Honolulu, which is on the leeward side of Oahu, Hawaii. I live on the windward side, where Hilo, Hawaii is, which is also my PS tag name--Hilo Poet, Aloha.
