Testifying To God's Unmerited Grace

Thanks be to God for saving me
He did this over 44 years ago
living quietly in the Scottish countryside
I liked my life, which pleased my ego

Then, in my mid-20s, I met a girl
a Christian girl who later became my wife
took me to meetings to hear God
where I could hear about my sin and strife

All my life, I had a stammer, felt alone
never had many friends, but then I found one
God's son, Jesus Christ, came into my life
told me I love you and chose you as my own

I learned then of God's unmerited grace
how Jesus shed His blood on Calvary's cross
taking my sin on Himself as my substitute
gifting me His righteousness for my place

Jesus was then my saviour and friend
being close to me all of my days
helping me over many bumps and bruises
reminding me I'll never leave you, this He says
