Tenants of the Season
Tenants of the Season
My love both sweet and bitter flows through me like an autumn with no name,
Bound together from the start, the two of us have rented out this world the same,
Two fools lost through the seasons, like leaves that spin in chaotic wind,
And we loved each other with the rusted fire of a narcotic sunset's end.
The whole forest burns in agony, the trees moan like broken hearts in pain,
The rusty leaf falls once again, like a tear that has no words to explain,
Only they, the mournful trees, still stand on guard in the very first frost,
Like us... left to watch over one another, in silence... at whatever cost.
Showers of stars still sift down over my soul, white and drifted deep in snow,
Through heavy winds I search for your ray of light in a winter no one could know,
Like a pilgrim lost in a blizzard, I wait for the light of an unborn morning,
And I hear the heartbeat of the forest... in verses... without warning.
I will wait in peace for another life, or the spring that no longer comes near,
My soul is a frozen field that dreams of sunlight it cannot hold or keep here,
We, tenants of the moment, paid with blood for every autumn day that passed,
And we kept on loving bitter and sweet... moving through the same mystery... steadfast.
One day, perhaps after a long blizzard, morning will rise within the soul,
Our love both sweet and bitter will bloom again when the days finally make us whole,
Two fools lost through the seasons, found at last in the final snowfall's light,
Bound together... eternal tenants... of the same love... and pain... and sunlight bright.
