The founding father of modern Singapore was a pragmatic man of vision. He started the Tree Planting Day in Singapore and planted a tree every year till 2015 when he completed his earthly journey on March 23rd.

In his memory, our prime minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong planted a Tembusu tree -- which is a local native tree -- in the landscaped fringe of Pinnacle @Duxton housing estate in Tanjong Pagar area. This Tanjong Pagar community was represented by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) as their Member of Parliament for 60 years till his passing.

In addition, a "Time Capsule" -- with many memorabilia items related to the Tanjong Pagar constituency and LKY including newspapers printed in the days following his demise -- will be buried for 50 years.

The Time Capsule will be opened when Singapore celebrates SG100, that is, 100 years of independence. Incidentally, our tiny "red-dot" nation is celebrating SG50 this year.

Thank you for your attention dear friend.

Sincerely, Leon Enriquez, March 25, 2015.

(Dedication: In Memorium, for LKY) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On this fine day, we remember: Urge compels zest to plant this tree, Race Saturday's April shower, Touch knows a quest in ritual spree; Enact a sign that tells of you, Mindful of grace and destiny, Bear words and lines, niche tree and hue; Use capsule trace, watch time tarry; Sound memory greets history, Under the earth for fifty years To tell truly your legacy; Reach for new mirth as time endears, Etch Lee Kuan Yew in fact and plot; Expound what's due on this "red dot." I loved your explanation behind the writing of the sonnet and what a wonderful tribute you have penned - oh how the world will have moved on in 50 years and how fascinating it would be to witness this event:-) Hugs Jan xx
