Tell Me

Tell me Am I good enough today? Did I smile enough today? Was I friendly enough today? I put on a silly mask So my friends will smile and stick around With my mantra running through my head ‘Smile, smile, smile, smile’ I keep a happy even tone Their standing on the bank talking Not noticing that I am afloat I talk and laugh as, ever so slowly With a fine steel paddle in my hand I am rowing out into a red velvet sea Drifting a little bit farther from land And no one sees me leaving As long as they can hear my voice Their sure that I am just fine Tell me If they turned around at just the right time At the worst possible moment As reeds part and my sleeves ride up As a light shines on a closed door habit What would they think?
