Tears of the Earth

The river weeps heavy tears,
A lament for all it has seen.
It remembers days of laughter,
Of children played on its banks,
Their delight echoing down the valley.

But now, the laughter is long since faded,
Thrust aside by screams of pain and sorrow.
The river bears witness as its waters
Became poisoned with filth and oil,
The dumping place now
For man’s greed and indifference.

Trees that once stood tall
So proud alongside its shores
Now cry their own tears,
Their leaves withered and brown.
The animals that used to drink from it
Are nowhere to be found.

The river misses those days
When it was pure and clean,
When its waters were a source
Of life and nourishment for all things.
But now, it is a symbol
Of humanity's destruction.

Yet, the river keeps on flowing,
Its tears mixed with its waters.
It carries on, bearing witness
To the world's pain and suffering.
And though it may feel broken
And lost in this ocean of tears,
It knows that one day,
Its tears will wash away
All the hurt and heartache.
