“Gooble-gobble-gooble-gobble…
We accept her, we accept her…
One of us, one of us…”
--from the cult movie “Freaks”
It seeds from a single source, veining out,
making wrong turns, miscalculations
of earth and reticence.
Grandmother spoke to the television,
imagined they were talking
about her.
It runs in families.
Then a brother, now a daughter—
inane laughter screaming
down decades—dead
droning voices in heads.
It goes to the source, moles deep
into earth, small pale roots
worming away.
It runs in families,.
composting cores,
fleshy genitals
torquing stones, snapping
pink vessels
with crushing earth.
Gooble-gobble.
