Notes About The Poem

The word I was looking for to describe the poem was hypocracy!

Talk

We talk – and talk
and talk - and suffer
for those who have
suffered a tornado,
or an earthquake.
a tsunami or
some other disaster.

We talk – and talk
with self-righteous
anger about abuse,
child abuse,
elder abuse,
the abuse of our
natural resources,
abuse of power.

We talk and talk
about politics as usual.
We read newspapers
and watch television.
We talk and talk more,
over cocktails, at a
party, or over lunch, and
then we go shopping.

Thank you for those kind words. Unfortunately we do tend to decry these things but then go about our day to day lives without actually doing anything about them.

What a sad, but true picture of what is happening here. Well penned, Barbara!

Thanks so much for your comment. I do appreciate the read and the insight. We are so often complacent with our own lives.

Amen to that Amen to that! And we do talk endlessly about problems but then go on about our business without giving any of them another thought.
