Talitha Cumi

Talitha cumi... in ascending order she rises above horizons bright star she hides from no one umbra dissolving upon her nightly entrance unwavering in brilliant and cogent self shining Were I - inclined or perhaps merely intoxicatedly disposed to take up dancing at the edge of some drifting far and away heaven - were I it would be there beneath if not beside her light her vespertine beauty exposed among night's celestial pastures the gift she can hide from no one (March 31 2016) Talitha is one of the common names for Iota Ursae Majoris, a yellow and purple star system in the constellation Ursa Major consisting of two binary stars orbiting around each other.~~ ( Talitha -Biblical Aramaic for "Little girl"-- cumi-"rise" or "get up")

Very beautiful, James. I felt as if I was being taken by the hand into this lady's spell that she has over you ... I'm sure she'd be happy to dance with you, two left feet and all. After consulting with Google, it's even more interesting with the "Talitha Cumi" connection with the Bible. It makes the poem richer.

Thanks for the compliment Timothy...I am a very happily married man of many years. This is fictional, though firmly rooted in reality. I live on a small farm, and often look out at night to the clouds of stars that circle the heavens, and hence, these words, though analogous to your perception as well. Intentional? perhaps. :) J.

As soon as I saw the title to your poems, I thought of Jesus' words to the dead little girl he raised up. A beautiful, lyric poem, reminding me, if you don't object to my saying so, to something the German poet Rilke might write. Thank you for reading "It Happens." M

Thank you Maurice, and it pleases me that you understood the connection. And I will have to read some of Rilke's work, I am honored that you would find similarity. J.
