Taking a Ride Across the Sky

Heaven's angels sing in euphoric harmony,
greeted by a passionate rhymer,
and we, the geeks left behind,
inspired by this poet brother (inclined to speak his mind)
are more alive thanks to his artistry.
In stained glass skies, we get a fly -by
from a Star Wars ride (pilot implied),
and I saw the sun like a blazing torch
rise brighter than before -
this optical allusion could not be ignored!
Then I heard the first chord from his guitar
play and replay and it felt like freedom...
Now free -
free to explore his own Tolkien dreams,
free to be the gallant knight of his own fantasy,
free to etch the stars into shiny pentagrams,
Free to just be...
himself.

I didn't know Chan, but I know his poetry, his art and I've read his short stories,
so I feel like I knew him in some way. I also remember him appreciating
some of my rhyming poems. His comments were sincere and made me smile.

wow, rhonda. I did not know him well either but I wish I had written this poem. For someone who knew little of him, you did amazingly well capturing his essence.
