Take Me Home Again
Take me home again
to when I was a child
walking down that dirt road to a distant house,
where I grew up
under my grandmother’s watchful eyes.
Let me be that little girl
who knew I was loved.
Take me home again
to those carefree days of childhood innocence
playing in the backyard with my imaginary dreams
give me back that promise of the future
newly inspired by hope of fulfillment.
Let me be that child of change
unknowing the threats of the outside world.
Take me home again
where everything was new and possible
full of right and ringing loud of freedom,
give me back that unconditioned love
that my grandmother had come to America with.
Keep it safe, alive and living free
for my twilight years and the children still dreaming.
