Table Manners

I don’t know about you but I think it right That kids should eat at the table, most every night. Sit down with mum, sit down with dad For these are the best memories you’ll ever have. There will come a time and it creeps up fast, When past days are gone, for they never last When you will wish those days were back When there is something in your life, you will forever lack. It had been tradition, it had always been But today at mealtimes children are never seen They sit with their takeaways on their lap Whilst the video games will, their attention sap! And these days parents are forced to compete With mobiles phones as their offspring tweet For conversation at mealtimes may well be lost And the lack of table manners will be the cost!!

Your "Table Manners" is a wonderful and true write. The parents are as bad as the kids with their cellphones. Eating and on the phone. Wonder what Mr. Bell would say. Have a blessed day.................

this is so so true. I always ate dinner with my kids watching tv but at least we were all focused on the same thing together. haha. My family as a kid was very large and because of the type of stepdad we had, nobody even conversed. We were all too busy devouring the food because not everyone would get seconds. My brother Tony and I were real pigs and to this day, I can out-eat just about anybody if I try!!!

Hello Ronald ... in this quickly changing world it is so sad to see traditions disappear. The electronic world and fast food industry is destroying us it seems - thank you Ronald - Lindsay

Amen! Well-done, Ron! Totally on-point and in such a palatable poetic form... I remember that we had to turn off the TV and the radio at dinner time, to which we were expected to come to on time, hands and faces washed. Ah, 'the good old days.' :)

Yep we had to do the same Gershon and they were indeed 'the good old days'. By the way love the pun 'palatable poetic form' - best regards as always...Ron

I agree with your poems points, Ron, I miss the days when I could hear what happened in mom and dad life that day and share how my life was going. There's an upside and downside to technology these days, and it seems like the downside is taking over. Thanks for sharing your poetry with us, Bill

So, am I permitted if I say, shouldn't the poem title be "Traditional Table Meals" or something like this? Table Manners means "behaviour while eating at table" Your nice poem is talking about joining the family for the meals as tradition. Thanks - Marshall

Good point. I might reconsider the title. Thank you for your input, greatly appreciated!

Very right. This tradition creates bondage, deeper love & affection between family members. But in these restless tech age, it is one of the many traditions first to fall apart due to lure of the intoxicated isolation created by tech age monster. concern is, young ones are not having their meals properly at all and on time! Once tradition goes, hard to bring them back.

Thank you kindly for your comment. I am lucky to have been brought up in an age where simple things in life meant everything. It is a shame that these past traditions are, to some degree, being lost. Best regards Ron
