Swimming Around In the Soup

How many breaths do I have, before the end of days How many words are faked, will we give our game away How many years in the closet, before they all come out gay How many dark thoughts do we possess, the one we never say Questions difficult to answer, how come they manage that easy lay How many tears are shed, tells his wife he went astray How many screams do we hear, the bills I’m unable to pay How many times has he promised, if you go the kids will stay How many times do we look at the sun, but still it appeared grey Questions about god and the universe, which truths should we obey How many saints are in heaven, to which should we pray How many more sleeps, before Santa Claus, gets underway How many more weeks til open season, shoot birds in disarray How many more years do I have, to wear this damn mask anyway Questions we read about quite randomly, in our poetry soup everyday 20/08/2021 By David Kavanagh

Thanks Christopher, Yeah it's mental the questions we embed in our poems, some impossible to gauge let alone answer, I like that ideal of the tardis, some scientists believe certain dimensions actually wrap around inside each other, but unlocking them is the real problem, cheers David

Hello Jennifer, thank you for stopping by, diverse questions in the soup, every ingredient imaginable, I picked some random ones here, I'd of loved another stanza, but the mono rhyme was proving too much on the day, so I cut my losses, cheers David

Yeah Sam said he found it resonated with (where have all the flowers gone) to be honest I was not familiar with much of their work, so googled it and I see what you mean, I’m chuffed, cheers David

A truly brilliant piece my friend. Yes, life indeed presents so much that is mystery, so much that is heartache and we must question our existence and our path repeatedly in an attempt to avoid dangers and the ever invading darkness that we uncannily feel and know is there to consume, to harm.. A fav-- and a true gem. God bless....

Thank you Robert I’m delighted with your visit and enlightening comment, so many times I’ve read poems here searching for answers, when the answers lie in the questions themselves, the darkness is very real, I find shedding light on it healthy, and helps keeps it at bay, thank you for the Fav Robert, cheers David

Amazing Monoryhme, David, which demands careful consideration. You must be worried about something, but we'll never know the answers to those questions unless we take it one day at a time. Even if we never discover the answers, we may at least get a little peace of mind by looking for them. Your ability to replicate the style of the poem is outstanding.

Thank you Lasaad, the only thing I keep focused on is the day I live in, everything else is impossible to know how it will pan out, no matter how well we think we’ve planned, I’m still staggered by the raw emotion and complex feelings when reading poems of trials and tribulations everyday on the soup, cheers David

- A lot to wonder about, David - We will never get the answers we want ... take one day at a time ... enjoy your weekend :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

You are so right Anne Lise, one day at a time is how I live my life, we will never get the answers but I find asking the questions and searching cathartic in itself, the soup sets some brilliant posers as you know, have a great weekend cheers David

Good questions David! Wonderful monorhyme. Not easy to do but yours are very effective and carry the lyrically sense of the poem well! Reminds me of the old folksong "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" This poem has a great rhythmic flow.

Thank you Sam, I don’t think I would’ve managed another stanza without losing form, I must google that song, check out for similarities, I appreciate you taking time to comment, and delighted you enjoyed these random posers the soup evokes, cheers David
