Swells of Raging Waves

Mournful are the tears that flow in pale moonlight
where in loneliness he dwells in shadows each night.
He thirsts for sturdy wings; hungers to take flight
on a journey across storm laden, windswept seas
hoping to liberate himself from sorrowful memories.

Into swells of raging waves, he is tempted to dive,
uncaring if he should perish or if he would survive.
In a world without her, he's more dead than alive.
Into a whirlpool he thinks of plunging to his death,
her name whispered on his lips with one last breath.

There is no lasting vestige of her for it wears a veil
Broken pieces of his wounded heart call out in a wail
The blood in his veins is draining and he's turning pale
There's little left keeping him from drowning in misery,
except when he thinks he hears her say, "I set you free."

Walking on sand, after spending the night on the beach
It's too difficult to accept that his beloved is out of reach
Indulgence he's begged for and in prayer he beseeched
but nothing quells his ache. There is no armor or shield
to protect a heart from lost love. Life becomes a battlefield.

Now, he's left with only heartache and rivulets of tears
along with sorrow that haunts him, severed after years.
Sleep brings nightmares; closing his eyes brings him fear.
for he feels her kiss in a dream but it's colder than ice
To be with her again in death... his life he would sacrifice.
