Sweet and Sour
“Sweet and Sour”
That’s what Love is…
Whether you are
A brother,
A sister,
A mother,
A father,
A lover,
Or a friend.
We cannot sustain
The relationship
Without both
The bitter and the sweet.
We languish
In the ecstasy
While it is ours,
But we deteriorate
Into nothingness
When it is taken from us.
We have not yet learned
To weigh the rewards
Of possessing it temporarily
Against the anguish
Of losing it
When it has gone.
We are selfish creatures
Doomed never to learn
The value of
Those treasures we have…
