In darkness the miles clicked by. Only reflections from road signs and car lights brightened the way. The miles seemed to flow slowly but yet fast at the same time. two ancient people with poor night vision travel.... surgery's fate awaits The waiting room is an open, drab room with different people coming and going. Then the nurse says come on back pre-op room. The patient is upset because they could not enter a vein and kept sticking him. He was antsy and frustrated. the team of doctors came through the door.... joy shot given The doctor comes to say, "Surgery only took 45 minutes, he's in recovery, he did extremely well". the recovery wait, two and one-half hours.... finally he's back A long, long night with fifteen minute naps. Vitals checked, meds given, urinal used and added pain meds. Slight fever, low blood pressure, too busy to write. the hurdles jumped each one successful... soon a birthday comes

wow, you told your story just as a true poet would do, DURING this event. I was doing a poem when Joe was in ER one time and he got mad at me for not paying attention to him, but I knew he was ok and in the end, the test results showed nothing serious but we got stuck with a five thousand dollar bill. Health care is so lovely in the US!! I enjoyed this, Sara.

Andrea, I only wrote while he was in surgery and recovery. He kept me busy when he got back to the room. He is healing. His incision is free from infection, healing and will be ready to have the staples out on Wednesday. The swelling has gone down in his hip and the bruising where they had to manipulate his leg to get the joint apart is looking much better. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

I know the plight of surgeries well with my daughter and her 11 or so surgeries for hip dysplasia... that waiting, that wondering.. though I know it's completely different with age, I sympathize... and this poem makes it all the more real. It's always the waiting, the lacking sleep, and wishing you were home. Well wrote dear!

Jesse, I feel for you going through that and your daughter going through that. I have heard of children being born with that condition. It is good that she got the proper treatment for the ill. Our daughter was born with scoliosis and had to have spinal surgery at age 11. She has had many problems associated with the problem since then. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Your poem amply emphasizes the hassle and uneasy feelings of surgery in hospitals....never something to look forward to, but necessity usually has the final say. Hopefully your husband will soon be well again, Sara. Regards // paul
