Sunset Reverie
Vanilla ice cream clouds float
in a blue and mauve sky.
Fingers of gold from the setting sun
dance on high.
Off in a distance clouds brightly edged
form a view of splendor.
A mirage of lakes, meadows and woods I see
as the sun paints the evening sky with fervor.
A large orange red ball slips into the sea
without so much as a hiss.
With cup of coffee in hand I stand transfixed
for not a moment do I wish to miss.
Birds wing their way to nearby trees
to find their nights perch.
In the grip of such beauty and grace
I feel a sense of warmth and peace
as if in God's holiest place.
In a distance music drifts and floats by
on a breeze soft as a sigh.
Now all is at peace as the azure blanket of night
has fully pulled its way across the sky.
