Sunday Morning

The morning comes, dawning
whitely, and I arise once more --
mind meandering, sleepily yawning,
sunlight creeping through the door.

My cat demands his morning meal
while distant church bells faintly peal
and traffic sounds invade the room.
Coffee briskly brews; my cat begins to groom.

I grab a glass of breakfast juice -- minutes pass
as I drink it down. I get the paper from the grass,
brush off the dew, read the news,
the comic strips and op-ed views.

My coffee cools. Dumb opinions heat me up.
To calm myself, I re-warm my now too-cold cup,
then turn on music's wordless charmng psalm:
No rapping please -- just this sweet, melodic balm.

Calm and soothing, a lovely morning, and, yes, no rapping.

Your lovely poem is a reminder of the things I love about Sunday mornings, Leo. In addition to the pleasantness and peacefulness, there is the joy of music. Have a great day, Evelyn :)

Your words read like the perfect self help guide to relieving stress Leo. I often feel the same way when reading the opinions and notes of others that are completely out of tune with my own thinking - or are just completely wrong full stop on all levels...but there is always the music. The perfect way to relieve stress and, in my opinion, the nearest thing we humans have to a time machine. Great read. Cheers - Gary
