Summer Shoes
Summer Shoes
Certainties like this
fields filled with dreams
like lips of remembered smiles
footsteps on dry stone
footfall quiet as heel to toe
move on the lane
Kicking stones absently,
just a moment to disturb the verge
as you go,
Touching your hair, while
those leather shoes bend and sing
There is a faint murmur beneath
the beach trees
silencing tired feet
and a world of crows above
A place to think, where dreams are brown parcels
tied with taut string,
Here before open country
under a summer sun
All the while summer shoes
kiss the hot road
as if reluctant lovers
and those curious cattle watch you pass
