Summer Revived

The seasonal door is wide
   but remains not fully opened.
The mid-day sun
   burns a heat wave unbroken.

Nature sings softly
hot and weeping in the heat
most of the garden creatures
  hide away in their retreat.

Summer 2016
   came in quiet and cool,
from a springtime long extended
marked only by children let out of school.

Sandy beaches fill
  with waters flowing tepid.
as summer creeps in
preparing a harvest to be epic.

Berries, corn, tomatoes, peppers
  promise sumptuous surprise
while farmers and land
languish in summer heat, hot and dry.

Autumn is soon to follow
close yet just off in the distance
and we and nature wait
   to welcome it without resistance.
