Summer of Discontent Reprised

   Americans were shocked and stunned
     ‘Reason’ abandoned, injustice had won

On Sept. 8, 1974, when President Ford exited the stage
The Republican right was left in fistic rage

While the Democrat left was aghast, How could Ford do this
The scales of justice, now so sorely amiss

To pardon a President, guilty in every possible way
of undermining the law and his opponent just didn’t play

It cost Ford the next election, ‘cos Richard Nixon he’d pardoned
Voters’ adverse reaction over two years so hardened

They elected an unknown, a neophyte named Carter
next to whom the Ayatollah Khomeini looked smarter

Yet the country moved on, hindsight thanked Ford
~ That Biden pardon Trump ~ start petitioning the Lord

Yes. Unfortunately, doesn't look as if history has a ghost of a chance or repeating here. Would be best to put this national embarrassment of a trial to rest ASAP! Nothing as ridiculous and circus-like since the 'OJ Trial!' ~ gw

Hi Gershon, excellent writing, good friend. I think they may try to put Trump in Rikers prison. They're trying to take him down any way they can. Good luck to him. Shabbat Shalom. :)

Yup. You're right. It's disgusting. Thanks for your good wishes, Regina!

Wait a minute, it's a state crime, Biden can't pardon him. Only a federal crime!

And Kathy Hochul certainly won't pardon Trump. Nothing like putting vengeance --- oops, I mean 'justice' --- ahead of the country... Where are you when we need you, Gerald Ford?!!

If you are correct, then too bad. That's all I have to say.

Love that King David honored the anointed King who was trying even to kill him. Likewise people that ran to him driveling with good news of who they took out met with dishonor. Why anyone would think to be gleeful or this…making our country look bad…the country who formerly God used to rebut WWII. (keep smiling…God is watching).

Dems want power at any cost. They are prostituting themselves to get it. Some love country, some love money.

Sara, you probably despise Trump, no matter how much better a President he would be than the senile Biden and the incompetent Harris... Bill Clinton did a pretty good job as President. Monica mattered not. And it mattered not that Slick Willy and his wife were and are crooks of the worst kind... And Kennedy, that salacious womanizer, faced down Nikita Krushchev and saved the world from nuclear war... Nixon saved Israel from extinction at the hands of Sadat and Assad. Was Nixon a model of integrity?! Excuse me while I barf... Bottom line: We elect Presidents, not saints!!! Pardon Trump and let Americans choose whom they want!

Well, it is not a good personality trait or characteristic for a person to have. Sometimes though when a person comes off that way it is really lack of self-confidence the person is experiencing. Have a great day..Sara K

That kind of 'Pride,' which is actually an arrogant feeling of one's superiority, is even worse than hate.

I meant that there was no way that Biden would pardon Trump, but maybe Trump will pardon himself. The reason I said that Biden would not pardon Trump was not because of hate(but it could be), but because of pride. Sara K

No way? Why not? -- b/c of hatred, that's why not. That's what the bottom line is here. No one can do the right thing anymore. Too much hatred in the world, esp. in America.

I don't think they get along so well for Trump to receive a pardon. Sometimes history doesn't repeat itself.

Right you are. Biden and Trump do not get along... As well, Nixon and Ford were both Republicans... That said, it's hatred that blocks Biden from doing the right thing. What a wonderful thing it would be if Joe overcame his instincts and did what was best for the country! ~ gw

Good luck with that pardon. A most unusual judicial proceedings which is foreign. All rules broken. Guilty beforehand. I wrote a similar poem .

Well, the question is this: How far is Mr. Bragg removed from Mr. Biden? Can Biden separate himself from the lunatic left of his party and do what's right for the country? That would be a near-miracle, woudn't it?

No trial, no conviction, Nixon resigned before he could be impeached and convicted by the Senate. I believe. Carter was a nuclear scientist in the Navy.

I believe that Trump's conviction makes it all the more imperative for Biden to pardon him. After all, how many pardons of convicts did Obama and Trump dole out on their last day office? Why not do the right thing and stop the country from becoming further divided?! Let's move on...
