summer afternoons

hot breath of summer
 even the dark shadows sweat ~
  solstice stupor

sweltering doldrums
 heat waves rise on sallow breaths ~
  only the bees buzz

While I have been writing since college, it has been my experience on PS that has helped me grow as a writer and refine my writing skills. I love the challenges of learning new poetic forms through the contests, the contests themselves and the rich inspiration from reading the poems of the writers here on this site. Hi Andrea! So happy that you loved this haiku set. Great idea. I actually wrote an entirely different poem, a sonnet, for the summertime contest. This was written several days after the sonnet and was inspired by a change in our weather - finally some beautiful summer weather. Hope you are having a good summer.
