Sultry Warm Summer Day

One hundred and six degrees was the rumor.
I checked at noon, it was only ninety-six.
Rumor fake news.

I sit on my front porch
lapping up the sun, enjoying the warmth.
Dog is panting like she has run a marathon

Sparkling wind chimes tinkle their happiness
as cat rubs against my legs, claiming me
as her territory.

Dog soon escapes to her air conditioned
fortress with her daddy who refuses to come out here.
I glory in this warmth, planning to go no where.

A humid, sultry, summer day.
Loving her for the warmth
she exudes, I relish in her hugs.

I have to run out there to warm up. My husband keeps the house like a meat freezer - on FREEZE.

Caren, what a great poem. Those weather folk do their best but don't have dials to set the temps. They didn't lie.))) I don't hang out in that kind of temp. You are a good woman who can enjoy it. Making this a FAV. Panagiota

I love the sultry hot muggy sticky weather others complain about. It is the place for me and cats.

Caren, I'm enjoying my Summer from your porch and through your senses converted to prose. And I am perfectly content. -Richard

This has the depths and imagery that speaks clearly and with authority on the effects of summer heat when its hot, hot, hot. Brought back memories of my youth working in summer on the farm.. A fav.. a sizzling beauty my friend...

Thank you so much Robert. I love being on a hot porch, surrounded by sleepy animals on a warm, muggy Kansas day!

Nice that you soak up the sun. I almost went on the deck.

I love it that you "almost did". It must be warm there, huh, Kim? It was 96 here yesterday and I was disappointed it did not get to 106 as predicted.

I get that. You and every man in my family except my Daddy; he was a farm kid and loved being out there for hours and hours in the heat.

Yes, and I would be one of them, dying slowly, languishing and delighting in the sun as I died.

It was terrific-hot here yesterday. This morning I am sad to say it is all wet and cool. It rained all night.
