Suffer the Little Children

Out of their small hands
But not out of their big hearts
A terrified child,
Once their pain starts,
Innocence washed away
Like a wind dispersed cloud
Growing up in a much too big step
Making them thus one's not proud
The moment has come and gone
You can't but carry on,
Your heart wrenched out of you
This is something you'd never do
But your own hurt overcame your mind
And you did not hesitate to be unkind
Not meant for them, that's true,
But received by them from you
Some distant time you'll explain it all
But now your heart is in free-fall.
