Suffer the Little Child

Take me back,
But don't leave me there!
I don't want to stand outside the school
Shivering
Forgotten
Wondering where my mother is?
My father?
No one called
And I remember
Sitting in the fifth grade
The loud intercom
A needle busting the bubble of my happy childhood
A phone call
A heartbreak
In the office
No one comes
Until strange hands take me away

But I am strong because I am weak
And God carries me until I find my feet
I grow and he waters me with His word
As I am His precious flower
As well as His abandoned child
The sun feeds me
And the Holy Spirit whispers
Never leaving me
Reminding me
That the Son died for me too
So I can go back without fear
That once again
I will be alone
And unglued

~ Autumn Rose Wood

Poet's note

I wrote the first half of this and since it took a life of its own I left it for quite awhile.
I logged on today with every intention of deleting it or at the very least editing it beyond
recognition. The overwhelmingly positive response from this community changed my mind.
Poetry can be pieces of our selves, our souls, we share with the world. I know I am not alone
in my vulnerability and that is a Godsend. Thank you Carrie, Michael, and Joseph.

This is an excellent reality poem. There are many children going through this same scenario. Some have no where to turn for help. I like the flow of the words. The imagery is one of reality. Great job! ~Joseph

Oh goodness....this one makes me want to cry for a child who feels so abandoned. There can't be a more frightening moment....and if this is a true experience, even more heartbreaking. God Bless ~Carrie
