Suddenly Swans
I sit in solitude, with a pale moon as my light,
its fickle glow, obscured by calico clouds.
The air feels wet and heavy
as Dusk adds its weight to the hazy gloom.
A bloated bullfrog croaks curses,
failing to attract an empathic ear.
And a ghostly mist masks the stars
twinkling above this foggy, desolate riverbank:
as if the cosmos no longer exists!
Then I hear the faint rustle of feathers in the darkness
where I spy a ring of ripples in the inky waters:
suddenly, swans swim into the moonlight,
and a smile lifts my spirits; they're such a delight!
Like alabaster sculptures carved into the night,
their surreal beauty touched my heart;
in my tug-of-war between dream and reality.
A vision, strong enough to break the chains of depression:
I see light where once there was only darkness.
