Sucked Under

Most days are okay now
The memories have grown dim
No longer every waking thought
The outlook not so grim

But other days it hits me
Like a wave over my head
And I get sucked right back under
These are the days I dread

I'm still unraveling parts of you
That have found their home in me
I'm not completely free of you
I'm not sure I'll ever be

On days like this I hide away
Until the worst has passed
Bending words to how I feel
Writing while it lasts

But you would never know it
And I will never tell
We could never be together
A fact I know too well

You know that I care too much
To let you know it hurts
To ask for more than you can offer
To wish the impossible to work

Maybe one day we'll untangle
As our song has played it's last
Maybe one day it will be nothing
But a memory in the past
