striped lily starlettes -
orange-sun piques from its core,
past purple bruises.
brightness of each petal tip
like pomp's fluorescent stage lights.

How beautifully you describe these flowers, Kim! I agree with Tom, the "past purple bruises" gives the plant a past to overcome and almost makes it seem human. Awesome tanka, Carolyn
