Strawberries and Cream
Why is it at times I feel that life toys with me?
I never want too much, just a taste of my choice of sweets
Why is it, when before me lies a table laden with treats
Spread out in elegance and embellished with enticing decor
Enjoying the view, I think, “I could have that one!
No, maybe that one! Or, wait!. What’s this I see”?.
Wide eyes focus first, on the chocolate mousse! Oooh, so yummy!
But no… my heart insists: ‘Have that one, the sweetest of sweets”!
Smooth… delicious strawberries and cream!
I would love to have it instead! And no surprise, it is all I see!
Mouth watering promises of pleasures to delight my taste
It would be enough to satisfy me, the hunger it would appease
As two hands reach out extending, within inches of heart’s desire
Suddenly, I’m interrupted! In mid air my hands are stayed!
I groan with such disappointment and become like a child again
I climb upstairs, to lie upon my bed, like a fetus in the womb, I curl
Through glistening tear drops, I glance at the floor upon which a broken toy lay
And I think, “How ironic can this be? I know life is mocking me!
How I yearn for those Strawberries and Cream!
