Straw Man

Listen to poem:
The ocean of untold, the universe of unforgiving, Dare me to speak up without husk, bare and bold, Without submitting to the summit, wild as a boar, The peak of power unchained, to the stars I’d soar. I throw myself in an open rift, a pit along the spirit trails, In endless forests of Down-Under, and its sandy dunes, Free of yoke, where no man has ever walked, Where a star among many stars is to be ‘Outback-stalked’. As fierce and as insolent as any intent, my vices hoarsely sound, The trumpet of life so ambivalent, and some more, Underground deep in the core, a diamond, alone, inbound, The dooryard unhinged of the tremors that have come by, All is gone, all is in the past, locked-in, on borrowed time. My occasional warbling opens me up as a Waratah does, The space that the land gives me is the space I lack, I’m told, I souse myself in a token of life along born and unborn, Behold me where I exist and where I undulate, behold! And for love, as for life, of the spirit and of the soul, I praise and I chant, I turn in the silence and dream the dreams, Askance and absurd, many, again with a pierced heart, As I gaze, and as I pass, where for you I’m waiting In the winds, nevertheless and nevermore, as an androgyne spirit, Stuck, I, a charming survivor, a serpent with jaws, Holly immortal of unknown inherent worlds, With a heavy crown of grim deaths, a straw man that feels and knows.
