Stranglehold

An uneasy feeling pervades my being
A sense of foreboding sways my thoughts,
Beyond blooming flowers and lush meadows
A stretch of barren, gloomy land looms ahead,
And alone
at a crossroads I stand—
a path seldom traveled
and a well-worn trail,
I stray in between like a ship,
adrift at high seas, sails all torn.

Who from afar calls my name?
I wandered off to seek yonder
that which appeared close
yet remains unseen.

Feeling forlorn, I stand and wait…
Who from yonder calls my name?
Oh, I just couldn’t see!
