Notes About The Poem

Stranded in Wasteland

And so we wait.
As time stands still
we hold our breath and wait.

The rising of the sun,
the disappearing of the moon,
life goes on as we wait.

The pendulum in motion.
Time passing that we will never see again
yet still we wait.

We let time run through our fingers
as if we didn’t know its value.
Like watching money burn.

Sometimes it’s the thing to do
but… soon enough comes the day
we recognize our folly.

Line, this is a beautifully poignant reflection on the passage of time. Your deliberate stanza breaks and the powerful repetition of the word "wait" perfectly mimic the feeling of suspended animation you are describing. The simile comparing lost time to "watching money burn" is incredibly striking and captures the quiet tragedy of our collective folly. Congratulations on your Honorable Mention—it is highly deserved for such a captivating free verse! The image is also very appropriate.
