Stoptober
Vanilla froth of the sea milk shakes
Rising and falling with my jumps, in motion with the rest of the crowd
All shimmering with sunscreen and that shiny, slick glow of freedom
Droplets shaken off a bikini land on my magazine and it rustles in rhythm with the pages of the book being turned next to me.
I squint, the heat of the sun beating down, insistently like the berating of mothers, mixed with greetings of ‘allo, nu, ma inyanim’.
I love lounging like this with legs stretched out,
different languages lapping all around-the lull of Russian, the drawl of American, the lilt of Australian
Mingling with Middle Eastern music playing somewhere near
All wafted along by the warm breeze, carried with the cozy coconut smell of sunscreen
All basking in the bliss that is Jerusalem beach.
The taste of the sea salty and grainy on my lips
Golden glimmers of sand stuck to my soles
Sharp shells lying scattered on the shore
Showers crowded, water splashing
It’s the city that never stops they say
But it’s October and in Tel Aviv time has been turned
And I want an endless summer of solitude
Spent on its stunning shoreline.
