Stones

Here beneath this pile of stones
Lies all that's left of Sally Jones
Her name was really Smith, not Jones
But Jones was used to rhyme with stones.

I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This is a wonderfully clever piece of meta-poetry! The rhythmic consistency and unbroken rhyme scheme perfectly set up the comedic timing of the punchline. It’s a brilliant, highly memorable epitaph that executes its joke perfectly without wasting a single syllable.
