Stone

Locked down, fenced in
Encased completely
Many complicated locks
Thick stone, sharp thorns
Meant to keep it all out
Inside, a fragile thing
Hidden and kept safe
From more pain
And disappointment
Held closed off inside
Walls of protection
Built up out of fear
And yet foolish hopes
Take over and walls weaken
Only to leave scars
And hastily, through tears
 They go back up
Made stronger each time
More resistant
Emotions blocked out
A mask of indifference
All to keep from feeling pain
From looking weak
And from being broken
Shattered and discarded
Again and again
So these walls I build
And here they'll stay
And behind these walls
My heart is safe
Unfeeling, alone, broken
Never coming down again
