STITCHED AND MENDED

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One midnight stitches join. Mother's thimble gently clinks her thread a silver lunar path. cold wind rattles panes— warmth blooms in patchwork suns. Two faded denim sky, scraps of childhood's yellow dress— geese fly south forever in cotton-battened clouds. snow drifts deep against the windowsill. Three Fingers trace the tear where his army shirt once lived. needle bites the dusk— new cloth bleeds indigo stars over mended emptiness.
Sad one. I read a story once about a grandmother who told her granddaughter to make a quilt, but to only work on it when she was sad or upset. The granddaughter did just that she worked on that quilt for years and she hated that quilt, couldn't stand the sight of it; but one day she finished it and laid it out on the bed and instead of something ugly and hated it had become a beauty. Thanks for sharing this work with us and reminding me of the young girl. Sara K
