Still This Life Is Livable

Still! This Life Is Livable ---------------------------------- Still, there in the lonely high, By the Persian saint’s ancient shrine, Goats descend down the rocky mount Leaping and slipping in the afternoons Like the happy schoolchildren in that street of new-city On their way home. Crows caw on lofty pine In breeze and silence; And the poor country-boys play Hide and Seek In the massive rocks. Still in the pastures, there, near our orchard The farmers-in-rags Plant poplars and willows in springs And mend the fallen stony-walls; And big wild cats, long brown lizards, and witty fox frisk by. Still, her father is highly religious. Still she is very simple. Still she admires me. Still! This life is O love, O Lord, livable.
